Newsletter April - May

Welcome to the new style newsletter on the website. From now on, all newsletters will be published here, and you will receive an email telling you when a new one appears. The newsletter will also continue to be available in the studio, and sent to members directly when requested. I hope that while you are here, you will have a browse through the site for more information on the club. I plan to give the website a bit of a spring clean in the coming months, and as part of that, I would like to have at least one image from each of the current members. I will detail how this can be done in a future newsletter.

CLUB HISTORY

Lucille Henry has pointed out that we have in our archives an example of an original artwork from most past members who have contributed in the past. We should keep this going by each of us donating one of our works to the collection so that future members will have a full record of what we are up to. The painting, drawing or whatever the representation may be should be no larger than 9” X 12” (23cm X 30cm).It should be left in an envelope by the small window in the Studio addressed to Lucille Henry.
It is also important that there is
(1) The name of the artist
(2) the title of the piece
(3) when the artist joined the Liver.

CROXTETH HALL EXHIBITION

Eric Cooper has been busy on the exhibitions front and reports here:

The club has now established a potentially fruitful collaboration with Croxteh Hall (the former home of the Earls of Sefton) Despite a marvellous annual range of events and activities the Hall and Park have never hosted an Art exhibition. The Club will now change that by mounting a two-day Exhibition in the Hall over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend on Sunday and Monday May 30/31. We hope this will become an established, and more substantial event. We are being encouraged to think adventurously about giving art a higher profile in the Park and there is potential for sharing the possibilities with other arts groups.

Artworks need to be delivered on the Sunday morning and removed on the Monday evening. Eric will be posting a new notice and entry forms in the club next Saturday, 10th
.

Exhibitions

The Williamson Art Gallery is holding the Annual Wirral Spring Show. The private view is on Friday April 23, and it is open to the public on the 24th. Note it is closed Mondays. I hope that the club will be well represented there.

Tate Liverpool. Last chance to catch Afro Modern: Journeys through the Black Atlantic
29 January -25 April 2010. Admission: £6.00 (£4.50 concessions)
Taking its inspiration from Paul Gilroy’s seminal book The Black Atlantic: Modernity and Double Consciousness (1993), the exhibition is the first to trace in depth the impact of different black cultures from around the Atlantic on art from the early twentieth century to today.

That‘s all for now folks!
